We’ve heard about ostrich farming but have you heard about rabbit farming in Nepal? Belambu based Himalayan Rabbit Farm has been supplying 150kg of rabbit meat every month to restaurants in Kathmandu including Le Sherpa in Babarmahal.
The Himalayan Rabbit Farm in Balambu-5, Kathmandu works in the promotion, research and marketing of rabbit farming. It reaches out to Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Rasuwa, Dolakha, Sindhuli and Myagdi.
The Himalayan Rabbit came into being in 2012 after its founder, Ujjwal Chapagain, a MSc student of Environment Management found a sustainable business model in commercially rearing rabbits for its meat.
Ujjwal Chapagain, managing director of The Himalayan Rabbit Farm took up the risk of leaving a secure job and entering into an unchartered business terrain of commercial rabbit meat production.
Over the past few years, Ujjwal Chapagain has been a renowned name in the agriculture industry because of his involvement in the rabbit meat market in Nepal.
